The "Acts of Kindness" Week by Week
Week 1:
- A group of people were stuck in an elevator for multiple hours when an elderly woman, who used a cane to walk, needed to sit down. A young man, who was in the elevator with her, decided to get on his hands and knees and allow the woman to sit on his back for a while to keep her hip from hurting.
- A police officer had noticed a group of around 20 individuals who were standing outside the local soup kitchen. He asked what was the problem, and when he found out the kitchen was closed, he proceeded to buy them all food out of his own pocket to keep them from going hungry for the day.
- In Brazil, during a protest, local police forces used tear gas to stop a crowd from becoming violent. A stray dog was caught in the gas and when a few of the protesters noticed, they stopped and helped flush the dogs eyes with water to get rid of the gas covering its face and protect it from further harm.
- During the same set of protests in Brazil that were mentioned in Week 1, one protest was stopped after a solider asked the crowd not to fight on his birthday. The crowd then responded in an amazing way, with a few protesters leaving and returning a few hours later with a cake for the man to celebrate his birthday.
- In New York, a man was late for his train and was running furiously to catch it, when he noticed something. An elderly woman was trying to make it down the stairs while carrying a set of large, heavy bags. The man stopped and decided to help the woman make it to her train as opposed to making it to his, and thus, missed his train to help her out.
- During a heavy rainstorm in Atlanta, a man noticed three elderly women waiting for the rain to slack off so they could make it to their car. When the rain showed no signs of stopping, the man pulled a tabletop umbrella off of a table and held it up above the ladies as a massive portable umbrella and escorted them to their vehicle.
- In Sacramento, California, a fatal car crash left a young girl uninjured, but her father dead. When police arrived to the scene, a young officer held the girl and tried to comfort her. She didn't know her father was dead and the officer gave her a stuffed bear that he kept in his car to keep her mind distracted.
- This is a very unique one. In a Chinese zoo, a baby monkey was being bullied by the other monkeys, so the zoo staff gave the little monkey his own personal guard dog. The monkey rides around on the dogs back and the dog protects it from the other, bigger, monkeys.
- In a Lowe's hardware store, a veteran was shopping when his wheelchair collapsed and broke in the store. The employees helped the man onto a bench and then proceeded to fix his wheelchair with the local tools for absolutely free. The man offered to pay for the repairs, but the employees refused, stating that "he had done his duty, let them do theirs".
- In Alabama, a single mother was struggling to feed her kids everyday when suddenly, boxes of food began appearing on her porch every morning to feed her family. She was never able to find out who did it, but she states, "they saved us".
- A doctor has just delivered terrible news to a patient, he has pancreatic cancer. No more than 5 minutes after the patient left, the doctor walked out to find him underneath a mans car, fixing it. He said, "my cancer doesn't tell me not to help anybody".
- A man walked out of a store only to realize he had locked his keys in his car. He had no way to get his wife's key, at it was their only car. A teenager riding his biked ask what the problem was, and when the man told him, the teen rode his bike for 7 miles to get the mans key and bring it to him, all while refusing any monetary payment.
- In a hospital in Kentucky, a local college students went door to door in the hospital playing his cello for cancer patients to boost their happiness and encourage them to keep fighting through their disease.
- In Saudi Arabia, a local man installed a refrigerator on his curb for him an his neighbors to put leftover food in for the poor kids. Instead the kids shamefully having to beg, they could just go to the refrigerator and get a nutritious meal out for them and their families.
- In Nevada, the temperature on garbage day was 103 degrees Fahrenheit. All of the local citizens put bottles of water in lunchboxes so the trash collectors would have something to help keep them cool on the hot summer day. The trash collectors were very grateful as they had nothing else to drink that day.
- The owner of Fox's Pizza Den in Ligonier, Pennsylvania had a great idea on how to help elderly people during a terrible winter storm. He offered for his delivery drivers to bring elderly people their medicine and other items, such as water and pizza from his restaurant.
- A local dry cleaners in Portland, Oregon, offers to clean an outfit for free if someone needs it for an interview and can not afford to clean it themselves.
- After the Sandy Hook tragedy, a 4th grade girl wrote a note to the police officer patrolling her school. It read ¨Dear officer, thank you for keeping my school safe. Merry Christmas!¨ This note touched the officers heart and he thanked the girl for her nice letter and gave her a big hug.
- At Disney World, a security guard walked up to every little girl dressed at a princess and ask them for an autograph in his notebook. By the end of the day, his notebook was full of little scribbled autographs from all the princesses that he had made happy during the day.
- Walmart employees found out that a woman was refused service at a local nail salon because her hands shook too much due to her cerebral palsy. So they got some tools and nail polish and gave her a free manicure and painting.
- Multiple police officers were watching an area of town known for violent crime when they noticed a group of young boys playing basketball in the street. The officers decided to play a game of three on three to remind the kids that even in a dangerous area, they could still have a good time with the local police.
- In Clearwater, Florida, a 94 year old woman received a knock at her door in the middle of a hurricane. It was local police officers delivering her hurricane supplies as they knew she wasn't able to leave her house to buy food or other necessary supplies.
- A man was visiting Washington D.C for Trump's inauguration and stopped by a local restaurant for a meal. His black waitress later found out that he left her a $350 tip with a note that read, "We come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if more people would share their beautiful smile with the world like you, America would be a better place.
- A police officer from the Green Bay police department in Wisconsin noticed a young boy sitting alone at the school gates. He discovered that it was the boys birthday and his mother was in prison. He had nobody else to pick him up so the officer decided to take him to McDonald's for a meal and gave him a ride in his police cruiser as a birthday present.
